BULLETIN no.5

SUNDAY 18/6/2000 - WARM-UP (8.30-9.00)

WEATHER CONDITIONS: COOL AND OVERCAST (Track 20, air 15)

FERRARI: SCHUMACHER HEADS FERRARI 1-2

Michael Schumacher posted fastest time in the warm-up on 1m 18.932s, reporting himself very happy with the feel of his Ferrari F1-2000. "The next challenge is to work out the best race strategy," he said. Rubens Barrichello was second fastest (1m 19.055s), also reporting no problems and that the balance of his car felt good.

McLAREN: THIRD AND FOURTH

The McLaren-Mercedes MP4/15s of Mika Hakkinen (1m 19.838s) and David Coulthard (1m 19.895s) wound up third and fourth fastest. Coulthard was very happy with the feel of his car, but Hakkinen, who also took time for a couple of laps in the spare, was still working on improving his handling balance after a seized rear shock absorber bearing had been detected after yesterday's qualifying session.

JORDAN: TRULLI TAKES FIFTH

Jarno Trulll's Jordan EJ10 was fifth fastest on 1m 20.388s with team-mate Heiz-Harald Frentzen 12th (1m 21.143s), both continuing race set-up work and satisfied with the balance of their cars on the cooler track surface.

ARROWS: DE LA ROSA SIXTH

Pedro de la Rosa wound up sixth fastest in his Arrows A21 (1m 20.486s), very happy with the feel of his car, but team-mate Jos Verstappen (11th) suffered clutch problems which left him stuck in gear.

MINARDI: GENE TAKES EIGHTH

Marc Gene set eighth fastest time, saying he was very happy with his M02 on full tanks. Gaston Mazzacane was 14th fastest and quite satisfied to have a trouble-free run.

BRIEFLY

BENETTON: Giancarlo Fisichella (7th) still reported understeer on his Benetton B200, although less pronounced than yesterday. Alexander Wurz said his car had good balance "but not perfect." SAUBER: Mika Salo's Sauber (9th) complained of driveability problems, but Pedro Diniz (17th) said he was happy with his C19 prior to spinning on the final corner and damaging its left front suspension. BAR: Jacques Villeneuve (10th) tried both his spare BAR-Honda and the race chassis, spinning off when a rear brake locked, while Ricardo Zonta did not manage a single timed lap due to engine failure on his out lap. PROST: Jean Alesi tried both the race car and the spare Prost-Peugeot while Nick Heidfeld lost ten minutes in the pits with a fuel leak and then lost his engine cover on the straight. JAGUAR: Johnny Herbert was making final aerodynamic adjustments to his Jaguar while Eddie Irvine scrubbed in wet weather tyres as a precaution. WILLIAMS: Ralf Schumacher (19th) and Jenson Button (20th) ran with lots of fuel, but still had no grip as well as brake problems.
