Prairie Heart Institute at St. John's Hospital is the largest heart program in Illinois. In fact, we perform more diagnostic catheterization angioplasties and heart surgeries than any single hospital in the state, and research shows that the more procedures a facility performs, the safer it is for the patient. We also have developed a reputation as one of the premier cardiovascular programs in the country, but it's our dedication to providing superior quality of care and compassion to patients and their families that makes us unique.

Many of our physicians are members of Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants Ltd. -- a highly trained, experienced, and skilled group of over 35 cardiologists who came to PHI from all around the country. Our surgical members include Prairie Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons, Prairie Cardiovascular Center, and the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine's Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. By centralizing these skilled physicians in the state-of-the-art Prairie Heart Institute facility and incorporating the many resources at St. John's Hospital, we are able to meet our primary goal: providing superior services at lower costs.

Our new facility also gives us room to grow, allowing us to meet our ongoing goal of building and strengthening our cardiovascular programs to best serve the needs of people in central and southern Illinois. In addition, the facility consolidates our efforts to become a community resource center. Providing education, classes, workshops, and materials about prevention completes our range of services. We also bring our skills and knowledge to many area hospitals through our satellite clinics.
