Oscar winner Barry Jenkins will direct A24's "Be My Baby," a biographical drama about Ronnie Spector. Zendaya, who has been attached to the project since 2020, will portray the '60s music icon. Before the singer died in 2022, Spector was an executive producer on the film and hand-picked Zendaya to play her on screen. Zendaya had a stellar year at the box office with “Challengers” and “Dune: Part Two.” She closed out the year shooting the A24 romantic drama “The Drama” in Boston with Robert Pattinson and Alana Haim. She also got the nod to join the platinum cast of Christopher Nolan’s next film, alongside Lupita N’yongo, Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway. It’s also expected, at long last, that Season 3 of her acclaimed HBO drama series “Euphoria” will begin production next year. Zendaya has come far since her days as a teen dancer on Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up,” but the climb to meaty roles has been steady, and two seasons of “Euphoria” launched her career on bigger stages. In 2020, she became the youngest recipient of the lead drama actress Emmy (and in 2022 she became the youngest to win two). On the big screen, she went epic in the “Spider-Man” franchise starting with 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and then with Timothée Chalamet in 2021’s “Dune.”
