Rapace boards Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’

'Dragon Tattoo' thesp to star in Fox's sci-fi pic

Noomi Rapace will star in Ridley Scott’s upcoming epic “Prometheus,” which began life as a prequel to the helmer’s seminal sci-fi pic “Alien.”

Scott returns to direct the Twentieth Century Fox project. Rapace, who originated the role of Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish version of the Millenium trilogy, is the first of five leads to be cast in “Prometheus.”

Pic, first penned by Jon Spaihts (“The Darkest Hour”), got an overhaul when Scott and Damon Lindelof (“Lost,” “Star Trek”) got involved.

“While ‘Alien’ was indeed the jumping-off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” Scott said in a statement.

“Prometheus” is skedded for release March 12, 2012.

“The keen fan will recognize strands of ‘Alien’s’ DNA, so to speak,” Scott said, “but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative.”
