The winners of the 79th annual Golden Globe Awards were revealed Sunday night during a non-televised ceremony at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.
HBO’s Succession led the TV pack with three total wins, including for best drama. HBO Max’s Hacks was the night’s only other multiple winner, grabbing gold for both best comedy and lead actress Jean Smart.
By outlet, HBO led with four total wins, followed by HBO Max’s two. Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV+ and FX each netted one win.
Global sensation Squid Game was among the night’s first-time winners, while Pose‘s Michaela Jaé Rodriguez made history as the first trans actress to be named Best Actress in a Drama Series.
NBC announced back in May 2021 that it would not broadcast the Globes, after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was besieged by scandal for its lack of representation behind the scenes. At the time, of the organization’s 87 members, not one was Black. In October 2021, the HFPA added 21 new members — six who identify as Black, five who identify as Asian, six who identify as Latinx, and four who identify as Middle Eastern/North African.
Heading into Sunday’s event, HBO’s Succession led the pack with five nominations, followed by Apple TV+’s The Morning Show and Ted Lasso, which each scored four. Following with three nominations were Hulu’s Dopesick, The Great and Only Murders in the Building; HBO Max’s Hacks; FX’s Pose; and Netflix’s Maid and Squid Game.
So, how did those nominations pan out? Read on for a complete list of this year’s TV nominees, with winners marked in bold. We also threw in tonight’s big-screen winners at the bottom for all you film buffs out there.

Do they just send the Golden Globes in the mail now?
The winners might just send them back to make a statement, at this point.
Nothing on regular menu tv
That’s because “regular menu tv” is filled with a stream of never-ending look alike procedural series. You literally have anywhere from 3-5 spin-offs of every procedural show and even if it’s not a spin-off, it’s just yet another medical show or cop show. As far as the sitcoms, it’s all the same lame laugh track series. Regular tv is outdated. All the good stuff is on premium networks or streaming, hence why regular TV doesn’t get recognition anymore.
That part.
Controversial or not,, some great wins:
MJ Rodriguez,
Kate Winslet,
Jean Smart,
Andrew Garfield…
I’ve never seen any of the shows that were in contention let alone the winners. I am familiar with the winning actors; congrats to them.
Then why are you on a TV website?
Possibly because KATZ has seen other shows that were not in contention.
Happy to see Hacks do so well. A bit disappointed that Only Murders got shut out. 8-/
I can’t believe Nicole Kidman won. Heard she’s terrible in that role. I think all these awards shows just love Nicole Kidman no matter what. I’m watching Dopesick now & that is an excellent mini-series. Glad Michael Keaton won. This was usually the most entertaining of the awards shows so too bad it wasn’t on TV this year.
Sarah Snook deserved her GG for her role on Succession, but I wouldn’t have been mad at all if Kaitlyn Dever took it for the role of Betsy Mallum in Dopesick. She was so excellent.
I agree! The whole cast of Dopesick is excellent. It’s such an important story. It’s horrifyingly scary & sad! More people should be talking about it.
Kidman is actually pretty good in Being the Ricardos. The best in that category? Probably not. But very far from terrible. I think Jessica Chastain was the most deserving.
Never saw a single one of the nominees nor winners. Really? This is a good representation? Who picks these?????
About 100 journalists who wield a completely unjustified amount of influence and consistently make baffling, tone deaf choices; hence the current shunning of the whole ceremony.
Lucy, real question here: what do you watch? What do you think were the best shows and best performance in the last year?
I have seen many of them and am glad to see MJ Rodriguez, Jeremy Strong and Jean Smart win. I still have a few of the films to catch up on.
From what I saw the tv section was a rehash of 2021 t.v. Emmys.
As terrible as the HFPA are and this scorning is well-deserved, I think this list of winners is…good, actually? Forget the best actor and actress of film will always go to the biggest celebrity. But the list of tv winners feels right on.
I mean, I’ve seen a number of these shows, and I think the wins are 1000% well-earned. There are over 500 scripted shows that air a year. You’re not going to see most of them unless it’s your job.
Also, you should watch Pose and Succession. They are both phenomenal.
Hopefully, the Academy Awards follows this format. Do not broadcast on televison. No one cares to hear actors opinions.
I don’t watch awards shows to hear the actors opinions on current events but they have the same right as you and me to express their views.
With GHOSTS not a part of the TV conversation with the Globes, they didn’t much interest me.
In years past, the Hollywood Foreign Press was often more astute than the Emmys in noting new shows with something to offer. That’s why the complete snubbing of GHOSTS was a big surprise to me.
Michael Keaton just keeps getting it done. What a gifted actor.
I will never understand the love and praise for Succession. I tired watching it. I wanted to shoot every member of the Roy family and then turn the gun on myself for wasting time watching it. Rich people being a$$holes to everyone, including each other, is not something I want to watch. It’s already the world we live in. I don’t need more reminders.
Different strokes for different folks. Succession is hilarious to me. It’s a satire that is absolutely making fun of how horrible and selfish these people are, and watching how absolutely miserable they choose make themselves despite having so much power and privilege is satisfying af.
Hannah gets it.
Bet you like Yellowstone too.
I’m so glad squid games won a award♥️♥️♥️
