Is ABC actually bringing the “TGIF” brand back, or do you guys just mean that the two comedies airing on Fridays is like the heydays of TGIF?
ABC is billing it as “the return of TGIF,” so…. –Mgmt.
Well now that TGIF is officially back, I want a Boy Meets World revival: Man Meets World. It can be everything Girl Meets World wasn’t but should’ve been.
*rolls eyes* Girl Meets World was a fantastic kids’ show.
I would say it was the decision to put it on Disney Channel that suffocated Girl Meets World from developing creatively. It was a good show, but I felt like it could have been more, I do feel like Boy Meets World had more of a cultural impact since it was one of the few shows that dealt with social issues that adolescents that felt real and genuine, Girl Meets World had some of that, but I felt it could have done more.
Networks and respective years aside, I think it would have been interesting to have “Girl Meets World,” “Fuller House,” “Melissa & Joey,” and “Last Man Standing” form the TGIF block.
Yes!!
I was at Comic Con and the ABC booth had a video loop and they were promoting Child Support as being “part of the all-new TGIF on ABC”, so It is official. It will be weird seeing single-camera shows and a gameshow as part of the block, since the legacy TGIF sitcoms were all design in the multi-camera style, but it is a welcome return to a familiar brand, I just hope they just build on it.
If Alec Baldwin’s show has a political bent
will not be watching…
Quantico will be missed😞not into reality tv…
oh well , there is still CBS & NBC that had some quality drama series😊
CBS took one good show Scorpion and still kept on that stupid reboot of MacGyver now another one Magnum P.I.
I AGREE, THE LOSS OF SCORPION WAS BIG. SO SAD. IT WAS A GREAT SHOW.
As far as MacGyver & Magnum PI. I think MacGyver is really good. P I is boring and way off track to the original.
Only thing I will watch is on at mid season. the rest of this I can skip.
Maybe the rookie.
Seems odd that ABC is bringing back TGIF when last season they canceled “Last Man Standing” with the so-called excuse that they were doing away with comedy on Fridays. Of course since it was still running strong it could have been moved to another night but that didn’t happen. And now they are going to bring back TGIF.
Well they tried and failed. Also, LMS was SO expensive. Not sure how people still don’t understand that one.
Don’t count me in as one who doesn’t understand that point. The financial reason will not be acknowledged by ABC. I was referring to their official comment on canceling LMS because they no longer wanted to schedule comedies on Friday nights. I just found it amusing how, after giving that reason for canceling LMS they turn around and bring TGIF back.
That wasn’t why, it was because the show bashed Obama
Sorry but I don’t think so. They wouldn’t stop any sort of revenue stream for themselves no matter who was being “bashed”.
Ridiculously excited for The Conners! This is what I wanted all along, since Roseanne Barr is so problematic.
Hoping The Connors is going to be just as funny 😆…. I waiting to see to see. How will they deal with Rosanne leaving
Probably they said it was just a dream and Roseanne was already dead of a heart attack.
Thank goodness for Netflix and Amazon Prime. Nothing on ABC interests me. RIP “Once Upon A Time .”
When are they starting “Dancing With the Stars – Seniors” featuring those stars over 65.
I don’t get the Tuesday strategy but what do I know. Great that Grey’s gets a two hour premiere and good luck to everything else ABC is going to need it
“The Conners” doesn’t start filming until 9/7, so I’m assuming that the delay is so that the entire block can premiere at the same time.
I’m worried about the Friday night demotion of ‘Speechless.’
Why hasn’t ABC announced this as the final season of Modern Family? The producers were considering it the final season just a few months ago, and the cast’s deals expire at season’s end.
I know! Heck, even Julie Bowen said to Ellen that they were heading into their final year. My guess is that ABC is going for another season or two… With the potential acquisition of 20th Century Fox, ABC would own “Modern Family,” making it somewhat more profitable to give its leads raises and extend their contracts. I guess only time will tell. If those discussions fail, I assume that they’ll begin billing the 10th as the last during mid-season.
Also, if Disney takes over 20th Century Fox, I can totally see Life in Pieces eventually moving to ABC since it would be an in-house property.
I will not watch The Conners without Roseanne! Our country is way too PC when a comedian of Roseanne’s caliber cannot make a joke without being fired!! BRING BACK ROSEANNE – SHE IS THE HEART AND SOUL OF THIS SHOW!
Truth.
Our country is way PC is always a copout for showing people their true self of being racist. That joke calling a black person an ape, an monkey, and an gorilla is never funny you got a sick demented racist humor. Roseanne been racist for decades but you supports it like a fellow racist.
I am so disappointed that Code Black has been cancelled; despite it’s popularity. This is one of the better dramas on tv right now. I don’t understand why a show like this gets cancelled; yet the Kardashians continue on…..!
Not ABC.
Agreed, but that’s CBS, not ABC.
I couldn’the have said it better.
I agree with you but it’s not on ABC
AGREE with you 100%, Code Black was top shelf, gutsier, more realistic, but where they made their mistake was in season 2 starting off by losing 2 of the show starters and replacing them with an actor who is an okay actor but a very pretty face which was just not needed. He was so unimportant to me that I don’t recall his name. Really miss Code Black!
Is the Eden Sher “The Middle” spinoff still in development at ABC?
Huge story from weekend: https://tvline.com/2018/07/20/the-middle-spinoff-pilot-sue-video-eden-sher/
Thank goodness there is SNF to watch on NBC until Alec Baldwin’s show gets cancelled. I’m not sure his shtick will translate to a major network in “primetime”.
Wow! I’m down to two shows per week at ABC now. Sad.
The Alex Baldwin Show? Ugh! I can’t imagine anything I would want to watch less. Oh, wait, Rosanne Barr and fortunately she is already gone.
What will ABC air on Tuesdays prior to October 16?
One of the best shows cancelled was De
signated Survivor. Think the network will
regret this.
I doubt it. I loved the cast, but the ratings were truly abysmal (0.5 at the end of the season). A Million Little Things would have to flop very hard not to improve the timeslot and against two aging police procedural, it has a good chance to get at least decent numbers.
Only ABC show I WILL be watching is The Good Doctor. WILL be watching Last Man Standing, WON’T be watching Roseanne reboot without Roseanne. Can’t stand Gilbert’, hope the show bombs & fast!
bring back once upon a time
the other shows were on alot longer then once upon a time
please
OUAT could not be more cancelled.
Final Season of OUAT is out on blu ray August 28, 2018. This is one of the few (only one I can think of) ABC series to be completed on blu ray. That must mean something .
Going to really miss the middle. And not watching the Connors.
Does ABC really think that simply dusting off the TGIF brand will magically bring back enough millennials who grew up with that iconic Friday family-oriented lineup in the ’90s? Once those people get a glimpse of those two less-than-funny single camera comedies and a silly game show there, they’ll instantly go back to enjoying the all the classics that made up the real TGIF on Hulu. This is a sad shell of those days. I predict that this experiment will fail miserably, like New Coke.
Not to mention, FOX picked up the discarded Last Man Standing and will air it Fridays at 8, which was its old time slot on ABC. That will surely eat into ABC’s viewership. If they were going to try to revive the TGIF brand, why didn’t they at least do it when they had the Tim Allen show as an established anchor? And don’t you suppose it would have stood a better chance if they actually had Fuller House? ABC will never publicly admit it, but they have to have egg on their faces for passing on the Full House sequel.
I completely agree with you. I’d love to see TGIF come back in a big way, but it won’t with these shows. I understand that viewership is really low on Friday nights, but I’d love to see 4 sitcoms worthy of the brand be a part of the block during the 2019-2020 season.
I believe ABC will regret some of these cancellations and it will affect the ratings. But they think they always know best. So time will tell as I am done with them!
I’d love to see Battle of the Network stars come back for a short run. It was fun the last time it was on, especially when they had “stars” that had been on the show 30+ years ago come back to compete again.
