Pierre Garçon suffers season-ending neck injury

Pierre Garçon had missed just two regular season games over the last four seasons before joining the 49ers in the spring. But a neck injury will limit Garçon to just eight games in his first season with his new team.
The 49ers' leading receiver will be placed on injured reserve, general manager John Lynch revealed Thursday in a radio interview on KNBR. The team said it was a non displaced fracture of the C5 pedicle in his neck suffered in the recent loss in Philadelphia.
Garçon was perhaps San Francisco's most valuable offensive player during the 0-8 start to the season. He led the team with 40 catches for 500 yards, putting him on pace for just his third 1,000-yard campaign in his 10-year career.
The team's remaining receivers are Marquise Goodwin, rookie Trent Taylor, Aldrick Robinson, undrafted rookies Kendrick Bourne and Victor Bolden Jr.
The 49ers on Sunday will host the Arizona Cardinals (3-4) in their first game since acquiring quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from the Patriots. Coach Kyle Shanahan said this week Garoppolo will be available to play and serve as C.J. Beathard's backup, just six days after joining the team.
The plan for incorporating Garoppolo remains fluid. It's likely he gets inserted as the starter at some point over the final eight games. After Sunday, San Francisco hosts the Giants and then has a bye week.
No matter the plan for their new franchise quarterback, Garoppolo won't have the team's most trusted receiver.
