Ime uporabniškega imenskega prostora

Na slovenski Wikipediji, poteka zanimiva debata in glasovanje o tem ali naj se userji še vedno imenujemo uporabniki ali naj bomo sodelavci, podobno kot ste vi suradniki. Idaja je padla ko sem pripravljal neko izjavo za medije in so se nekateri stavki povsem narobe razumeli (bolj podrobno sl:Wikipedija:Glasovanja/Ime uporabniškega imenskega prostora#Razprava). Mene zanima, če lahko še vi tukaj podate razloge zaradi katerih ste angleški izraz user prevedli v suradnik in ne na primer dobesedno v koristnik, kot so to naredili Srbi in mi. The LocalisationUpdate extension has gone live

The LocalisationUpdate extension is now enabled for all Wikimedia projects. From now on new localisations that become available in SVN will become available to your project within 24 hours. Your localisations get into SVN from translatewiki.net typically within a day and at worst in two days. This is a huge improvement from the old practice where the localisations became available with new software. This could take weeks, even months.

The localisations done by our community at translatewiki.net are committed to SVN typically every day. When the system messages in English are the same as the local messages, they will now be inserted in a file and are available for use in all our projects in a timely manner

What this means for you

Local messages have an impact on the performance of our system. It is best when messages are as much as possible part of the system messages. In order to remove unnecessary duplication, all the messages that have a local localisation and are exactly the same as the system message will be removed. What we ask you to do is to compare and proof read the messages in translatewiki.net and the local messages. You can then either remove local messages when the translatewiki.net message is to be preferred or, you can update the message at translatewiki.net.

Messages that are specific to your project will have to stay as they are. You do want to check if the format and the variables of the message are still the same.

Why localise at translatewiki.net

When you localise at translatewiki.net, your messages will be used in all Wikimedia projects and eventually in all MediaWiki based projects. This is how we provide the standard support for your language. When messages change, at translatewiki.net you will be prompted to revisit your translations. Localising is more efficient because we have innovated the process to make you more efficient; there is text explaining about messages and we have applied AJAX technology to reduce the number of clicks you have to make.

How can we improve the usability for your language

We expect that with the implementation of LocalisationUpdate the usability of MediaWiki for your language will improve. We are now ready to look at other aspects of usability for your language as well. There are two questions we would like you to answer: Are there issues with the new functionality of the Usability Initiative Does MediaWiki support your language properly

The best way to answer the first question is to visit the translatewiki.net. Change the language to your language, select the “vector” skin and add the advanced tool bar in in the preferences and check out the new functionality. And make some changes in your user page. When there is a need to improve on the localisation, please make the necessary changess . It should update your localisation straight away. We would like you to report each issue individually at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Usability_issues.

When there are problems with the support of MediaWiki for your language, we really want to know about this. It is best to report each issue separately. In this way there will be no large mass of issues to resolve but we can address each issue on its own. Consider issues with the display of characters, the presentation of your script, the position of the side bar, the combination of text with other languages, scripts. It is best to try this in an environment like the prototype wiki as it provides you with a clean, basic and up to date environment. The prototype wiki is available for five languages but you can select any of them, change the preferences to your language and test out MediaWiki for your language.

We would like you to report each issue individually at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Language issues. The issues you raise will all be assessed. It is important to keep each issue separate, because this will make it easier to understand the issues and find solutions.

Marine Le Pen: creation of the article in Croatian

I feel sorry not to speak and write Croatian.

The article about Marine Le Pen has versions in many foreign languages. I am not able to create the article in Croatian. Could someone create a stub of this article from the English or Russian version ? As a MEP and a candidate for the 2012 French presidential election, she is well-known in European politics. As you can see, she figured in 71st position in the 2011 Time 100 (http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/completelist/0,29569,2066367,00.html ; http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2066367_2066369_2066134,00.html).

Not Croatian speaker

Hi guys, I created a text in English but I don't speak Hrvatski. This page is already in Italian, English, Spanish and French but I would like to add your language! :) Could any good soul translate these few words?

Basket Rimini Crabs is a basketball team from the city of Rimini, Italy.

The club was born in 1947 under the name "Polisportiva Libertas". During the 1970s the team, nel frattempo named "Basket Rimini" reached the Serie A2 (Italian second level), a professional championship for the first time in its history. In 1984 Basket Rimini was promoted in "Serie A1", the highest level of Italian basketball: it played in this league 8 seasons from 1984 and 2001 (sometimes they went down on A2). Its best result was 8th place in "Serie A1" in the 1985/86 season. The club qualified twice, in the 1998/99 and 1999/00 seasons, for the Korać Cup, a continental competition.

In 2001 it was relegated again in "Legadue", the former Serie A2, adding officially "Crabs" nickname to its denomination. In 2011 the Crabs were exlcluded from Legadue due to financial problems, and so they restarted from the "DNB" championship (fourth Italian level).

Some of its youth teams won the title of national champions in the 1980's and '90's. Also, Carlton Myers, one of the best Italian basketball players, began his career in Basket Rimini, as did Alex Righetti and many others.

Our policy Wikipedija:Suradničko_ime states that imena sačinjena samo od brojeva (ili s više od 2 broja u imenu)... nisu poželjna which means names made out only of numbers or with more than 2 digits in name... are not wanted. If you want to have nickname which consists of 2 letters and 5 digits, please first create some sensible name and then you can ask for rename to Ha98574 here. SpeedyGonsales 11:51, 17. siječnja 2012. We do not allow such names for regular users of hr wiki, but as you do not speak Croatian I presume your activity here will not be of some big concern and possible damage which is a reason for our policy is acceptable. We ask our regular users to have human readable names, but if you are not regular here why should anybody bother you if you want a bit unusual name? I see no problem here. SUL will work. Translation request

The Wikimedia Foundation is preparing to launch a survey that it hopes will be helpful in discussing the future of how projects are funded on Wikipedia and sister sites. (More information about this can be read at meta:Fundraising and Funds Dissemination/Resource list and meta:Fundraising and Funds Dissemination/Recommendations, but you don't need to read it to help out here. :)) We would like input from as many people as possible, but the survey translations are not yet completed in many languages, including yours. The English version of the survey is at meta:Survey of how money should be spent/Questions/en. The Croatian version, currently 47% complete, is at meta:Survey_of_how_money_should_be_spent/Questions/hr. If you can help, you would be very welcome!

Translations are done using the "translation tool". If you go to this special page, all you have to do is select your language from the pull-down menu and click "fetch". It will bring up a table. You can easily see what has been translated and what has not, because untranslated sections are green. Click on the blue text in the left column next to content that has not been translated to open up an editing box. Above the box, the English version is shown, and you can simply enter in your language translation beneath it.

Hello I am working over at English Wikipedia to improve the quality of health care content. I have been writing high quality medical articles and in collaboration with a group called Translators Without Borders am working to get them translated into other languages as per here.
