Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Sumple (talk | contribs) at 10:58, 27 May 2007 ({{lc|User:Sumple}}). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Full protection. Edit war in progress, someone posted Template:Pp-dispute on the page anyway. Rugrigs0 10:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection. Constant edit-warring by users, repaetedly. Constant violations of WP:POINT, WP:EL being broken, repaetedly. This page needs full protection,as no-one is using the talkpage Rugrigs0 10:02, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. For the last several days an anonymous editor using several IPs beginning 83... has been persistently adding an unsourced quotation in an inappropriate way to the entry. It appears the editor wishes to make some kind of point regarding the relation between Poland and Germany. The editor falsely claims to be reverting vandalism, does not discuss on talk page, and does not appear to edit any other entries. FNMF 08:42, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Only two or three IP's have been involved. Warn as necessary; if they continue, report to AIV. Sr13 09:43, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    semi-protection. Vandalism, IP edit war. 68.5.224.107 05:32, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 5 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Signaturebrendel 05:46, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Reason I'm requesting this is cause of the same sort of i.p edits to the whole song area. Everytime that is eddited, the first song is changed from Stand out to Blood and replacing who sings it with My Chemical Romance. I mean, if this is protected, that would stop that sort of nonsense edits to that article. I also do realize that the vandalism isn't even high, but I just think it's stupid that that sort of thing is always changing to something completely different by some unknown i.p edditors who think they're so "cool". So yeah, I just thought I should cast my idea out in regards to that page. Captain Drake Van Hellsing 04:28, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined There isn't enough IP vandalism to warrant semi-protection. I cannot protect an article simply becuase every couple of days an IP vandal leaves his/her mark-that would be unfair to anon contributors trying to improve WP. Signaturebrendel 04:32, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Requesting two-week semi-protection for Michael Jackson to avert heavy anon vandalism, which is what happens every time when this article is unprotected. Preferrably, however, the article should be semi-protected without certain dates in mind. It can then be unprotected at some point (long) down the future.UberCryxic 04:16, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. --Deskana (talk) 04:18, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Users who accesses article from multiple IP addresses (so it's hard to block them) continuously remove factual and cited information, it's been a few months now, warnings to these users (or "user" perhaps) have failed. History is riddled with vandalism reverts.

    Alexdragon 03:07, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. Report specific problem users to WP:AIV or WP:ANI. --Deskana (talk) 04:18, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Article being attack once again by the 172.xxx with more then one address.--JForget 02:06, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined I have blocked the vandal in question-there really seems to be only one account who has been causing trouble the last couple of days (The other IP address edit the article to infrequent as to warrant semi-protection. Signaturebrendel 04:23, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi protection Increasing number of new users who are provoking edit warring and are being extremely incivil and rude. Requesting semi-protection to stop newly registered editors from making changes to the article to help build a consensus at the talk page.

I also request that the article be put back in its original state.

    Good friend100 01:28, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined There seem to be three users edit warring, but all three have been editing WP for several weeks -one since January. Signaturebrendel 04:35, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection, 24 hours - weekly Doctor Who protection request - people are ORing all over the place over whether scene A is a reference to Episode B, based on the episode having enough references to the classic series as it is. Will (We're flying the flag all over the world) 19:48, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 24 hours, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Sr13 08:23, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection For the past two weeks, I have observed what I believe to be the beginnings of a revert war between several users and some persistent IPs. So far, there has been no discussion between the opposing editors on the relevant talk page. LordCo 18:42, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Sr13 08:19, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Protection Recently vandalized often--William Henry Harrison 04:53, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Not enough recent vandalism by multiple users or IPs. Sr13 08:15, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

User:Bishonen is enforcing a personal vendetta against me and showing extreme inconsistency in her use of administrative powers. Unprotection requested so that I can actually contribute to Wikipedia, instead of wasting time with such behaviour. --Sumple (Talk) 10:51, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No vandalism in a few months, and I see no reason to think that anything would start up now. -- Amazins490 (talk) 05:43, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      Unprotected Sr13 09:48, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    • It has been over 3 months the article has been protected, unless if it is an article with a high risk of heavy vandalism (although not as bad as Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton), maybe we should give it a shot, I will add it in my watchlist.--JForget 01:49, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
