On Red Markham's farm near Whitewater, Wisconsin, son Steve tells his story: through the woods, taking a school bus, how muddy fields impact harvesting, canning jam, making jack-o-lanterns, and watching a dairy truck collect milk.
About the film, director Tom Smith writes: " In the 1970s, the Markham family enjoyed national fame for a brief period when the popular children’s TV show, “Captain Kangaroo” aired film clips from these films on CBS network. Their names were not given when the clips were shown and the film’s original sound track was not used but their image and events around the farm were shown to millions. Their farm friends in Wisconsin gave them a friendly razzing for going coast to coast."
Tom Smith made four films in this series. Farm Family in Autumn, Farm Family in Spring, Farm Family in Summer, and Farm Family in Winter, all available to see in the Academic Film Archive of North America collection on the Internet Archive.
