Guzhang is principally engaged in the exploration and mining of vanadium-containing stone coals, mineral processing, production and sale of vanadium-related products including vanadium pentoxide, vanadium alloys and other metallurgical products in China.

Although Milan Beckwith moved to several locations in his lifetime, he made a strong impact on Pana, and the community that came before, Stone Coal. The latter took up a square mile, near the Christian-Shelby County line south of Pana, and to the east of Route 51.
