Boston Globe Appoints New CEO
Doug Franklin will replace Mike Sheehan starting January 1.

BOSTON, MA — Boston Globe Media Partners named a new chief executive Thursday, appointing Doug Franklin, formerly publisher of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and chief financial officer of Cox Enterprises.
Franklin, 59, replaces Mike Sheehan as CEO, effective on Jan. 1.
The paper reports, "It was commonly known within the Globe for several months that Sheehan would depart, by his choice, at the end of his original three-year agreement, and he played a key role in the search for his successor."

Franklin will continue the fight against declining print subscription and advertising revenue, a business challenge plaguing news outlets worldwide, and spurring staff cuts and buyouts here in Boston.
