Posh breaks record book deal
![]() Becks and Posh often grace the gossip pages
Victoria Beckham has landed what is thought to be the highest price paid for the exclusive serialisation of an autobiography.
Hello! magazine, the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday have jointly bought the rights to serialise the pop singer's life story ahead of its release. Figures of up to £1m have been reported as the price tag for the preview of Learning to Fly, which is due for publication on 13 September. The news that she has picked Hello! for the exclusive deal is reported to have upset OK! magazine owner Richard Desmond.
But The Express newspaper - owned by Mr Desmond - may have soured the relationship with a recently serialisation of an unauthorised biography of Beckham which claims to be a warts-and-all exposé. Victoria's Secrets relies on interviews with former dance teachers, friends and members of Posh's former band Persuasion and portrays the singer as determined and driven, with a "passion for fame". Revealing Hello! has previously published extracts from Andrew Morton's unauthorised biography Posh & Becks. Mrs Beckham promises her own book will reveal what it is like to be one half of the most famous couple's in the country. The Media Guardian website has speculated that the final deal between Hello! and Associated Newspapers, owners of the Mail, could be as high as £1m, reporting that Mr Desmond offered £750,000 for the rights. But a book publishing insider said the deal had been slightly exaggerated. He said: "It is believed the book will be featured in Tuesday's issue of Hello! for which a large amount of money was paid for the rights. "It was not as high as a million but it does set a record for a book serialisation." The deep-pocketed glossy magazine only rarely ties up book deals, choosing only those of the biggest celebrities such as Celine Dion.
