A clinical trial comparing long-term (1-year) low-dose diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide, or HCTZ, ± a beta-blocker, atenolol), to an angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker (candesartan ± a calcium antagonist, felodipine), in newly diagnosed hypertensives.
Conclusion Metabolic changes and adverse effects were reduced with candesartan.
