putt along

To move along at a very quick, brisk, or rapid pace, especially on a compact motorized vehicle. He's totally happy just putting along the countryside in the little van of his. We were putting along on our scooter through the streets of Venice when someone suddenly darted in front of us.

1. slang A small motorized vehicle. My grandfather sill drives the same tiny putt-putt he had when he was in college. A: "We rented a scooter to get around the city during our vacation." B: "You're going to block up traffic driving a putt-putt like that."
2. slang Miniature golf. Do you kids want to go play some putt-putt this weekend? They're known for their putt-putt course, but they've also got go-karts and a pretty sweet arcade.

to move along rapidly, usually in a motorized vehicle. ("Putt-putt" is the sound made to mimic engines, especially small engines.) The little car was putting along down the highway, when one of the tires went flat. We were putting along very smoothly all the way into town.
