1. verb, informal To outdo, surpass, or excel beyond. John always tries to cap other people's stories with his various tales of adventure. I don't think I can cap Brian's time—I just can't run that fast. That story was crazy—how am I supposed to cap that?
2. verb, slang To kill someone, especially with a gun. I heard they capped Larry the Loudmouth after finding out he was an informant. Go cap that fool before he talks to the police. The boss told Ray to cap that guy for becoming too much of a liability.
3. verb, informal To capitalize a letter or word. Make sure you cap the first word of the sentence. You're not e e cummings, so you need to cap the first letters of your name! A: "Why is this 'i' lower-case? You are talking about yourself, right?" B: "Yeah, shoot, I just forgot to cap it."
4. verb, slang To lie. Quit capping and just tell us the truth! I hope you realize that Frank's always capping, and that none of his wild stories are true. Would you quit capping? I know you don't make that much money.
5. noun, informal An uppercase letter. (Usually used plurally.) Please don't write your text messages in caps like that. It makes it seem like you're shouting at me! Something must have gone wrong because she just texted me "EMERGENCY" in all caps. I don't think Aunt Mildred knows how to turn the Caps Lock off—hence her texts always being in caps.
6. noun, slang A bullet. That no-good lying piece of dog meat. I'm gonna bust a cap in his ass! They said they would put a cap in my head if I even thought about going to the cops. If you don't get out of here right now, we're gonna bust a cap on you!

slang Lying. I can see through your capping, so tell me what's really going on. His cappin' is gonna get us all in trouble. I saw him out with another girl, so he's cappin' if he told you he was home all night.
