For that reason, hemming machines can use roll formers to bring flange angles to 90 degrees before panels are hemmed. Then, in a two-stage process, the machine pre-hems the flange by turning it down 45 degrees, then hems it by bringing it down the rest of the way to the surface of the inner panel.
