Tema
a city in Ghana. Population, 58,800 (1970). Tema is a port on the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic Ocean. The freight turnover in 1972 was approximately 3 million tons, mainly imports. Tema has a railroad station. Enterprises include aluminum and steel plants, refineries for processing imported petroleum, and enterprises of the chemical industry, which retread automobile tires and produce toxic chemicals and detergents. The city also has enterprises of the textile and food-processing industries. Motor vehicles are assembled, and there is fishing.
