Sariwon

 

a city in the north of the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea; located east of the Chaeryong-gang (river). Capital of the province of Hwanghae-pukto. Population, 60,000 (1955).

Sariwon is an important transportation junction. Industry includes machine building (industrial equipment, textile and agricultural machinery) and the production of textiles and food. The Madong Cement Plant is located nearby. Iron ore is mined in the surrounding region.
