editThanks- I really am interested in improving the classical wiki pages, but I doubt whether I have the time or all the data at my disposal to do a proper job on more than one or 2 articles. I am glad that you took my remarks in their right spirit. All the best

School IPs
editHi Milton,
Yah, school IPs like that one are nothing but trouble, but policy forbids indefinitely blocking IPs unless they're open proxies. If that one comes back on Monday with more vandalism I'll block it for longer. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 21:39, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Blue Mountains Youth Council
editWhat do you mean "Please create a user account so I can help you with this article. Until then, reverts"? Gaz (talk?) 03:07, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I see what you mean, I just thought it had a chance as an article (after extreme editing). I'll leave it to you as to whether it should be tagged for deletion etc. Gaz (talk?) 03:19, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, you deleted it on your talk page, so I'll put it here, and hope you see it. I'm generally opposed to deleting on principle. The City of Blue Mountains page provides a link to the council page, and the youth council seems to be affiliated with the city council, so I think it's worth working on. Thanks for your attention and swift response to me edits. --Milton 03:22, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I boldly ignored all rules and closed the AfD discussion myself. (I'm not an admin by the way). I may get flak for doing this, as there seemed to be a lot of delete votes. Still, I think that I did the right thing. The article material is now all safely tucked in City of Blue Mountains to be edited, deleted, vandalised, etc. Cheers! —Gaff ταλκ 20:23, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

editHello. Just letting you know that while experimenting with tags may be a nice opportunity for you to figure out how they work but they can also be a mild annoyance for people trying to clear various tag-related backlogs. about morris palter
editHello Mr. Stanley,
I don't understand. How am I not allowed to put something up about Morris Palter when I AM Morris Palter? I have not violated any issues. Why would my name be marked for violation before I have even put anything up? Why is a another party allowed to mark my name for an entry? How is that legal? This makes no sense to me. Am I, Morris Palter, not allowed to have any information about myself on Wikipedia?

Milton,
I see. Someone else has to make my entry...

I noticed you're still having a little bit of trouble with how to move things around on the WP:DPL page, so maybe this will help. When you finish a dab, click the edit button at the top of the whole dump. Then, in the same edit, you can (1) cut the whole line from the to-do section and (2) paste the line at the bottom of the done section. Then you can add any comments you have after the "links" link. You won't have to retype the whole line that way, and it also comes off of the "to do" list so that other people won't think it still needs to be taken care of.
When working with WP:DPM, which is just a sort of automatic weekly update of the DPL list, you don't have to edit anything. The only problem was that Advanced Level entered the DPL list for the first time around the time you finished it.
Thanks again for the work you've been putting in! Dekimasuよ! 02:08, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi,
I saw your post on Escaladix page about your problem with CorHomo. Escaladix seems to be very occupied on other matters than Wikipedia right now (we haven't seen him much in the last months). I take this as an opportunity to talk to you about Wikipedia Cleaner, a similar tool I have written very recently. It's still under development, but it works and is already being used by several people on the French Wikipedia and even on the Hebrew Wikipedia. If you try it, suggestions and ideas of improvements are welcome (in French or in English). I did the English version of the help page myself, so it's probably in a bad English, you're also welcome to improve it .
--NicoV 17:12, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the syntax fixing on the documentation --NicoV 19:46, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
I think the English version of the documentation should be in the English wikipedia rather than in the French Wikipedia (like it was just done for the Hebrew page) and to have true interwiki links between the translations. What do you think ? Where should I put the English page ? I don't participate much here, so I am not sure where to put it. --NicoV 11:47, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, moved here, some links should probably be modified to use things on the English Wikipedia rather than the French one (templates especially). --NicoV 20:21, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Sure, you can upload english-versions of the examples, that will be better for the documentation here. I think that you should upload them on Commons. My own requests about uploading screenshots of Wikipedia Cleaner are :
- Use the same licenses as the screenshots I have uploaded (GFDL + CCA 2.5)
- Give proper credits in the upload page, something like :
- Description: XXX of Wikipedia Cleaner
- Source: Hardcopy of NicoV's work, Wikipedia Cleaner
- Permissions: Permission given by the author of Wikipedia Cleaner to upload screenshots of this tool under double licensing, see below
BTW, you can enhance the English as much as you want .
If you wonder why I have removed the title bar of the screenshots I have done, it's because I am working under Windows and the XP title bar style is licensed by Microsoft. I didn't know until someone on Commons warned me about this. --NicoV 03:25, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Edit war
editPlease check out Anna Anderson. Major edit war on this article. I can't figure out how far back to revert the article to.--Markisgreen 04:33, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
From what I've seen, there are several people arguing through the article about the veracity of the information in the article instead of using the talk page or some other forum. It seems like the article needs to be locked, the participants warned and the page reverted to its last stable version. I'm not an administrator or anything, just a casual user. And interested in the topic of the article (anastasia, russia, ussr, etc.). Looking through the history, the article clearly has a stormy past.--Markisgreen 05:16, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your help, Milton. By intelligent usage, I'm refering to your sage words of advice on that talk page (for Anna Anderson), your sage thoughts on your user page, your attitude of inclusion, your response to my question about Bill the Galactic Hero, etc. I think you're a great asset to wikipedia. Keep up the good vibrations.--Markisgreen 05:28, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Perennial
editHi Milton
I just noticed you disamiguated "perennial" to "perennial plant" on the Abundisporus quercicola page I just created. I can see your point, but... there are a couple of points I'd like to talk over with you. This is not a plant, it is a fungus (very different believe me) and the sense of it being perennial (it stays on its tree for years and just gets bigger) is rather different (although similar in some ways) to the sense of a plant being perennial.
I see 3 options: leave it as it is (most people would get the idea I think), create a "perennial (fungus)" page and link it there (I would try this if you think it is a good idea) or just not link the word perennial in the article at all (it speaks for itself in a lot of ways).
Let me know what you think. Richard Barlow 11:16, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I see what happened. Me and an IP address were making an edit to the same page at the same time, and I think somehow I must have caught one of the links at the same time during preview.
I hope the page is sorted out now, the reversion caught most of the fixes. Thank you for alerting me. Bobo. 04:32, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

editHi there! A little while ago I uploaded a photo to Wikipedia, but realised afterward that I should have put it on commons (I think), so now I've done that too. Should I make the article show the picture from Commons (though they're the same), and if so... how do I do that? Thanks!

Romeo Niram
editDear Milton, I know you only tried to assist in the editing of the article, but I nevertheless would like to inform you of the prodding process of the article.
A tag has been placed on Romeo Niram requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
Best regards, gidonb 17:05, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Super Mario RPG lists
editCurrently, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars has two lists pertaining to it (List of characters in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). User:TTN decided it would be best to merge the lists into the main article and split Smithy Gang into those articles. I recently merged Smithy Gang into the list of chatacters by removing the non-notable characters, and I have asserted that a cameo section in the list of characters is valid, per Wikipedia:Trivia sections and Wikipedia:Handling trivia that uses Alex Trebek#Cameos as a good example. I have suggested that we rename the articles per Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves to something along the lines of Characters of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and World of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars or Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars) just like Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and World of Final Fantasy VI or Gaia (Final Fantasy VII). I believe if these articles are to evolve beyond a non-notable list, they should be renamed. For example, List of Final Fantasy VII locations was merged into Gaia (Final Fantasy VII), because a World article is notable, but a simple list of locations is not. That is why there are other secions of the article to make it a World article. It simply has not been renamed yet.
TTN believes the citations in the development and reception sections of the list of locations, books and magazines, are trivial sources. When I added that the 3D perspective of the game is reminicent of Equinox to the main article, TTN removed it since my souce was "the opinions of the Nintendo Power player's guide writers". Although it was actually Nintendo Power magazine, I do believe a magazine is a reliable source, and I gave a page from Next Generation Magazine which also said the same thing. In addition, I was surprized that TTN said that it was from the players guide, since he claims to own the players guide for the game. He has not verified this, since I asked him for citations in May, "Could you look in the back of the Player's Guide and tell me what “types” of … Magic? I forgot what they call it in the game … well, anyways, what types of Special Attack or whatever it is (actually, could you find out what it's called?) there are? I remember some vaguely when I owned the guide like “Fire”, “Jump”, “Electricity?”, etc. Could you provide a citation, like the page number with a quote in context?" TTN replied that he was going to "get to it" (User talk:TTN/Archive 5#List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). TTN claims the player's guide is "at the bottom of a box that's behind at least five others in a cramped space". Seeing that TTN did not recognize that the page was not from the player's guide when I provided a scan of the page in question from Nintendo Power shocked me. However, I have continued to assume good faith by not questioning TTN's honesty.
Per Wikipedia:Consensus#Consensus can change, I have offered five different reasonable, temporary compromises that might integrate my idea with TTN's.
- Go over the list of characters so we can delete non–notable characters
- Rename the articles by following the steps at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves.
- Cut down the geography section list of locations by cutting it into the regional maps the adventures use when traveling from one to another. I can get pictures and write the fair use rationals, and someone can cut down the text that has no citation and does not allude to other media.
- Write the concept and creation and reception sections for the list of characters
- Write the concept and creation section for the main article
TTN rejected my compromise because it still keeps the articles. I agreed I would consider a redirect, but Wikipedia:Article size does not allow that, since the list of locations is currently 82 KB long. Instead, I agreed to help cut down the geography section that is the bulk of the article, but TTN rejected that as well because TTN states, "I am not interested in working on the article in regards to improving it." and "get past this "having sources automatically means that this information is good" mentality." TTN states, "I don't think they have or will ever assert notability." I have replied with, "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, so if you don't think the articles will ever assert notability, we cannot yet know this, per Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions#I don't like it.
Would you please take a look at Talk:Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and give us your thoughts? Taric25 01:21, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest
editI have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 03:09, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
