The Terminator: Special Edition

Back when DVD was still new, a pretty bare-bones disc of the original Terminator film was released with just a mono soundtrack and a kind of poor transfer. Sure, T2 may be the superior movie in many people's opinion, but the original still has it's own charm and it does deserve a much better treatment on DVD.

This October, MGM will release a full-fledged Special Edition of James Cameron's 1984 action movie complete with a brand new high definition anamorphic widescreen transfer and a remixed Dolby Digital 5.1 EX soundtrack. Wow, now that is nice. The disc will be a flipper with the movie on one side and the special features on the other.

Just what are the features? Well, here we go:

Brand-new documentary with new interviews with James Cameron.

A retrospective documentary titled "The Terminator: A Retrospective.

Seven deleted scenes that can be played with and without James Cameron commentary.

Trailer and TV Spots.

Storyboards and original script treatment.

DVD ROM script to screen.

Hidden Easter Eggs.

The Terminator: Special Edition is slated to street on October 2nd, 2001. We'll be tearing through the disc over the weekend so expect a review shortly. For now, check out a screen of the disc's main menu:
