Satellite Source: Sentinel 2B Mode: Multispectral Resolution: 10 meter Image Date & Time: 04-18-2018 1628 UTC Confidence: Medium-High Issue Date: 04-19-2018 Region: Gulf of Mexico Location: 29°09'51" N, 88°44'45" W Coverage Area: 7.34 km^2 Remarks: A possible oil slick was observed in satellite imagery extending north and south from an oil facility located at 29°09'51"N / 88°44'45"W. The anomaly extends south to a maximum distance of 3.1 NMI, and north to a maximum distance of 4.6 NMI with possible thicker oil observed in the northern section of the anomaly. The anomaly widens with distance in both directions (North & South) from the oil facility and appears out of place. The anomaly aligns well with the reported winds from station buoy “KMIS” which were from the WSW (240°), at 4.1 M/S at 1635Z. This anomaly unconfirmed as oil. Uncertainties: This anomaly was assessed to a Medium-High confidence level; while there is overwhelming evidence of an anomaly, we are unable to confirm that it is crude oil.
