Reconsidering Twin Beds
Ah, twin beds. I grew up with some antique brass ones in my room. Some brass thing was constantly coming loose and bonking me in the head in the middle of the night, and sometimes as an extra treat, the whole thing would fall in and I'd be stuck at an angle, completely tucked in and yelling for help. Perhaps that's why I've hated twin beds my whole life. Getting my first full bed was heavenly, and now that I have a queen, it's nirvana.
Well, since then antiques have grown on me, and lately I've been noticing just how chic designers are making twin beds look these days. I suppose when they don't collapse and brass bits aren't bonking you on the head in the middle of the night, they are downright practical. Kids can share a room, guests who aren't into spooning each other can both fit in the guest room, and for those of you who love symmetry can create a matchy-matchy heaven. All in all, I've had to re-think my take on twin beds, and they are starting to grow on me. Just don't make me sleep in one for more than two days.

This is the picture that started to change my mind, though these appear a little larger than standard twin size. It's double the glam with those wonderful canopies.
Twin beds are also great for sleepovers with your childhood B.F.F. (then and now).
This mirror becomes a focal point and ties the two beds together as one unit.
O.K. Check out the giraffe lamps. Are those Jonathan Adler? I didn't know he made a sconce version! This whole room is so perfect without being too cutesy, and here two beds (and coordinating giraffes and X-benches) are so much better than one.
This is the opposite of matchy-matchy, and I have to say it is not convincing me to go astray from matchy matchy. It makes me dizzy.
Twin beds for grownups.
This is a cozy cabin vibe at its best. I imagine one would sleep quite well in here, no matter how narrow the bed!
