From Malay siap, probably from Proto-Mon-Khmer *srap (ready, prepared) (compare Khmer ស្រាប់ (srap, ready) and Vietnamese sắp. Compare to Japanese ()() (kiotsuke, attention) and Malay sedia for military command.
