TOLEDO, Ohio — Steve Iwanek joined WTOL 11 as a part-time Multi-Skilled Journalist in January, 2024. He actually started with WTOL though back in 2022, when he was a summer intern alongside fellow MSJ Andre Norrils. 

Currently, Steve is a student at Bowling Green State University, where he is wrapping up his undergraduate degree in journalism with a minor in marketing in April this year. After he graduates, he will be joining WTOL 11 on a full-time basis as a news MSJ. 

Steve was born in Elyria in northeast Ohio, and has his roots in South Amherst, a tiny village about 15 minutes from Lake Erie. He went to Firelands High School, where he was a member of the basketball, golf and track teams, as well as the school’s honors choir and student council. 

At BGSU, he has been the sports content director for BG Falcon Media, a position he has held for two years. Along with that role, he has been a news anchor for BG24, the weekly student-run newscast program, as well as being the voice of the BGSU Volleyball team on 88.1 FM WBGU during the 2023 season. 

When Steve is not working, you can find him out on the golf course, reading a good book, or watching his Cleveland sports teams. He is in particular a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan, and says he hopes to see them win a Super Bowl before he dies.

Steve is the son of Steve and Sheila Iwanek, grandson to George and Beverly Iwanek and Karen Chaney, and is the proud little brother to his sister Katie.
