Americans Should Not Have to Prove Citizenship to Receive Healthcare
“. . . I am deeply saddened that one of our nation’s most
vital public programs—the one that provides the poor, the sick, the very old and
the very young with vital health care services—has become a target of the
divisive immigration debate that is taking place in Washington right now. U.S.
citizens should not have to prove their citizenship in order to receive health

Should Mark Independence Day by Reauthorizing the Voting Rights Act
“. . . The Voting Rights Act is directly aligned with the
spirit of the Declaration of Independence. There is no better way for us to
express our independence than by exercising our right to vote. . . Sadly, our country still has a long way to go before we
can be sure that all American citizens have their votes counted and can vote
without intimidation. . ."

Cummings, Souder Release GAO Report on Clinical Lab Quality
“. . . I would like to thank my colleague, Subcommittee
Chairman Souder, for his dedication to this issue, and for requesting, along
with myself and Sen. Charles Grassley, the GAO report that we are releasing here
today. . . Our interest in this issue was piqued by the
distressing story of Kristin Turner, a young lab technician at Maryland General
Hospital who contracted HIV and Hepatitis C in 2003 when the machine she was
using malfunctioned, splattering her with infected blood. Sadly, the injustice
imposed on Ms. Turner did not end there. . ."

Urges MTA to Make Bus Service More Reliable Comments on Study
Finding that Buses Do Not Run on Schedule
". . . MTA bus service is essential to the residents of
Baltimore, including the 35 percent of households that do not have access to a
private vehicle and the nearly 20 percent of workers in the City who rely on
public transit to get to their jobs. When a bus does not travel as scheduled, it
severely inconveniences riders and may lead some to abandon public transit."
