CSU Tropical Weather and Climate Research

Seasonal & Sub-Seasonal Tropical Cyclone Forecasts

Forecasting

Colorado State University has issued forecasts of Atlantic basin hurricane activity since 1984. Following the pioneering work of Prof. William Gray, our group continues the long CSU tradition in forecasting with continually improving techniques for predicting tropical cyclone activity powered by new research.

The Bell Research Group Begins field campaign in the tropical Atlantic Ocean

Professor Michael Bell and graduate student Delián Colón-Burgos embarked on a multi-week field campaign to study tropical cloud systems and how they are organized. The tropical Atlantic, and particularly the region known as the Atlantic Intertropical Convergence Zone is a critical region of the planet where storms, hurricanes, and cloud systems spawn. The goal of this campaign is to facilitate multiple types of observations within the environment that creates cloud systems of interest.
