35th Annual Parade of Nations takes to the streets on Saturday
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - This weekend, Houghton County is celebrating diversity in the community.
On Saturday, floats, banners and flags representing different countries will take to the streets for the Parade of Nations. This year’s theme is ‘Holidays Around the World.’
Co-Chair Mariana Nakashima says the event has been going on for 35 years. Over the years, she says there been a continue appreciation for other cultures in the community.
“At the moment, we have students from 80 different countries,” Nakashima said. “Even when I came here 10 years ago it wasn’t as diverse as it is today, so a great appreciation and great knowledge that we are quite diverse here.”
The route of the parade will also be different this year, starting at the Rozsa Center instead of Hancock. The parade starts at 11:00 a.m.
