MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The presidential election is less than two months away, and people may have noticed an influx of election mailers.

Marquette City Clerk Kyle Whitney says people can expect mail from political parties, third-party interest groups and candidates.

Mailers might say residents aren’t registered to vote, but Whitney says that isn’t always accurate. Some organizations are working off of old information. To check registration status, there’s an easy way to do it.

“Call their local clerk, or you can go to mi.gov/vote, it’s the State of Michigan’s website,” Whitney said. “You can look up your voter registration information there, make sure you’re registered. It’ll tell you where to vote on election day. It’ll tell you if you’ve requested an absentee ballot, if the ballot has been sent and if you can vote early and where that location is.”

Whitney says the Marquette City Clerk doesn’t send the mailers, but the forms will work if people mail them to the Marquette City Clerk.

Whitney also says if people need to change their voter address, they can do so online, by mail or at a county or local clerk’s office. However, for those who want to change it within 14 days of the election day, they must go into their clerk’s office to change it.
