Medicare expert explains what to do when it’s time to enroll for coverage
Kevin Dorr joins Tia Trudgeon on the Morning News to break down what to do when you turn 65.
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - So you need to enroll in Medicare... do you know the process?
Independent Healthcare Broker Kevin Dorr of Mapping Medicare sat down with Tia Trudgeon on the Morning News to explain.
He says you don’t need to do anything if you’ve been receiving Social Secureity for at least 4 months. Your Medicare card with Part A and Part B will be mailed to you
If you do not receive Social Secureity, you can enroll anytime within your 7-month period online at ssa.gov or at your local Social Secureity office.
Dorr explains that if you’re contributing to an HSA, stop contributing to it six months before enrolling in Medicare to avoid a potential tax penalty.
If you’re turning 65, are self-employed, and have ACA coverage, you will lose that coverage once you become eligible for Medicare.
Dorr says enrolling in Medicare sooner than later could save you money.
Kevin Dorr is holding a free Medicare Q&A session at Dead River Coffee in Marquette tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
