What to Know

Critics Consensus

Masterfully managing its two halves of adroit character study and surreal nightmare, Severance's long-awaited sophomore season makes cognitive dissonance a mind-melting pleasure.

Clarisse Loughrey Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) Now that Severance has started to prod at these more existential questions about the self - well, it’s only made the show richer and, quite frankly, more loveable. Apr 3, 2025 Full Review Emily Bootle New Statesman The redemption arc in many modern stories is a character finding themselves; there is no such neatness here. Severance shows us that if there is a true self, it is elusive, fleeting, transformed before you can grab it. Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Caroline Framke Boston Globe In order to enjoy “Severance,” I just don’t need -- or even really want -- to explicitly understand every part of it. Sometimes, a room full of goats can just be a room full of goats. Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Jared Mobarak Hey, Have You Seen ...? An impressive ride that lives up to the promise of the first while also laying a foundation to ensure better pacing for the third. We might not have fewer questions, but those queries are much more focused now. Rated: 8/10 Apr 4, 2025 Full Review Pramit Chatterjee Digital Mafia Talkies I didn’t expect Severance Season 2 to suffer from the sophomore slump because Season 1 had such intelligent writing, direction, acting, production design, and more. Yet, here we are. Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Morgan Lee Christianity Today Mark’s reason for electing to undergo the severance procedure is sympathetic. But the show immediately disabuses its viewers of any naiveté; this technology isn’t just an innocuous reprieve for depression. Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Paul E The same as season 1. I wanted to know what they do with the premise so I watched the recaps and the finale but there's no way I could watch entire episodes. It leans too heavily on suspense for me and the pacing is too slow as a result. It reminds me of Lost in that way. A thought provoking premise, great acting, generally well put together, and they doubled the pace then this would be a fantastic show. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Dzesika G This is undoubtedly, absolutely, and definitely one of the best series of the last years out there. They went fully bonkers, and I'm so here for it because they made it work. Hail to the TV shows that are smart and treat their viewers as smart, too! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Anuj D It feels like "Lost" all over again, every episode leaves you with more questions than answers. The storyline just keeps getting complicated with no obligation to explain why anything is happening the way they are. And then to top it all everyone and everything moves so slow, feels like I can take a 5-10 min break, come back and still not miss a thing. It was ok in the 1st season to build up the setup, suspense etc. but now it feels like the director is just lazy, we sit for about an hour for a 30 mins episode. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Oliver L Too slow and full of unnecessary filler. The whole story could’ve been told in two episodes: Mark reintegrates and saves his wife. Just watch the recap at the beginning of each episode—it’ll save you time. Feels like they’ve run out of ideas. I won’t watch season 3. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Daniel G Yeh, nah. Acting, direction, design, all great. But the story - this is the new Lost. Save your time, go rewatch Mad Men. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Weston K Incredible, concise season 1. As the plot continues into season 2, the substance is lacking. Season 2 is treated as a teenager on spring break with no rules. Nothing makes sense because the cinematography does the “talking”. No rules, no boundaries, no real substance. The relationships fall apart and characters fade away without explanation. Like many series of our current time, each season gets progressively less profound and essentially more confusing.
