Adolescence — Season 1

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Stylistically bold and beautifully acted from top to bottom, Adolescence is a masterclass in televisual storytelling and a searing viewing experience that scars.

Rated: 4/4 Mar 27, 2025 Full Review Liz Shannon Miller Consequence However they’re executed, what the long shot brings to the screen is something that’s hard to capture: Immediacy. And there’s something profound about the impact that has on Adolescence. Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) A truly memorable and compelling show. Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Brett McCracken The Gospel Coalition Adolescence wrestles not only with age-old questions of nature and nurture but also timely issues related to technology, gender politics, the “manosphere,” and how young people are being shaped in a scrolling world. Apr 11, 2025 Full Review Brian Farvour The Playlist Everything that transpires within the four episodes of “Adolescence” comprises a genuinely gripping experience, one unlikely to prompt repeat viewings, but even in a single, solitary watch, the impact is nonetheless felt. Rated: A+ Apr 11, 2025 Full Review Jim Schembri jimschembri.com A distinctive series in a streaming firmament defined by sameness, most notable for addressing how the internet can exert its destructive influence upon kids right under the noses of their parents...Regrettably, the performance quality varies wildly. Steve W I admire the long shots, but when it’s the only thing done it is incredibly boring. I watched the last two episodes at 1.5X speed and feel like I missed nothing. Overall very little actually happens in this series. Lots of small talk banter focused on building characters with little tying to any type of (nonexistent) intricate plot. It is mostly emotional dialogue, and the masculinity talks in episode 3 were really cringy; people don’t talk like that in the real world…..social media headslappers attempting to be inserted into life. Doesn’t work, never does, and pulled me away from any appreciation I had up until that point because at the end of the day, youre talking about a basically bipolar kid being bullied and snapping one day. That’s the plot. Kid was a product of his environment less parents. Even the girls friends they made you want to dislike. So none of it tied together and seemed like even the writers were confused as to what they actually believed vs. the message they wanted to deliver. It’s fiction, so sure, anything goes I guess but for most of us it was a big ol snoozefest with admirable cinematography. Easy pass. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Bob A Mind boggling how the critics thought this script was good. Within hours of the crime the police were convinced they had solved the crime. It seemed preposterous but after stringing the viewer along for several more episodes they had in fact solved it and the kid confesses without saying why? Don’t waste your time Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Joseph L Yawn. It appears this show has another agenda other than actual entertainment. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Christopher H This show is nonsense. Pure fiction. These white teenagers are not the evil ones that this is loosely based on Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Audience Member Adolescence hit me hard in the best way. The storytelling is honest and intimate, the pacing flows naturally, and the cinematography pulls you right into the emotion of every scene. Performances feel real, not forced. And the direction is confident without ever trying too hard. This is one of those films that sticks with you long after the credits roll. Big respect to everyone who made this. The best Tv Show I've seen in 2025 so far, probably in my all-time best list. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review RIde C Interesting enough to stick with. But like with everything on Netflix, has a strong left leaning agenda that becomes distracting. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Read all reviews
