Topic: Ongoing Cloud Cover Layers product degradation
Date/Time Issued: June 7, 2023 1855 UTC
Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-16 & GOES-18 Cloud Cover Layers product
Date/Time of Initial Impact: June 2, 2023
Date/Time of Expected End: TBD
Length of Outage: TBD
Details/Specifics of Change:
The GOES-R Ground Team has identified an algorithm processing issue impacting both the GOES-16 and GOES-18 Cloud Cover Layers products, however, it is more prevalent in the GOES-16 product at this time. The resulting degradation presents as random occurrences of missing blocks in the output that are arranged in a diagonal pattern across the image. A solution for this issue is currently being developed and is expected to be ready later this month.
A notification will be sent noting the date and time the software fix has been implemented.
