Fisheries Disaster Assistance
We administer disaster assistance under the Magnuson-Stevens Act and the Interjurisdictional Fisheries Act. At the request of a state governor or an elected or duly-appointed representative for an affected fishing community, the Secretary of Commerce determines if a fishery is eligible for disaster assistance subject to appropriation of funds by Congress.
Fisheries Finance Program
The Fisheries Finance Program provides long term financing for the cost of construction or reconstruction of fishing vessels, fisheries facilities, aquaculture facilities, and individual fishing quota in the Northwest halibut/sablefish and Alaskan crab fisheries.
Financial Services Portal
The portal provides access to the Capital Construction Fund, Fisheries Finance Program, Buyback Programs, and Fishermen's Contingency Fund.
Fishing Capacity Reduction Program
We are authorized under the Magnuson-Stevens Act to conduct a fishing capacity reduction program if funds are provided and it is determined that such a program is necessary to prevent or end overfishing, rebuild stocks of fish, or achieve measurable or significant improvements in the conservation and management of the fishery.
Fishermen’s Contingency Fund
The Fishermen's Contingency Fund compensates fishermen for economic and property losses caused by oil and gas obstructions on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf.
Capital Construction Fund
The purpose of the Capital Construction Fund Program is to improve the fishing fleet by allowing fishermen to accelerate their accumulation of funds with which to replace or improve their fishing vessels.
